How to Be Restored to God

  1. Tell candidates that they have not lost their salvation or broken their relationship with the Lord; fellowship (or being on talking basis with the Lord) has been broken. Use David, who      committed adultery and killed a man. He did not ask God to restore his salvation, but to restore the joy of his salvation. We lose joy when we get in sin and drift away from God (Psalm 51:12).

  1. Use the analogy of an earthly Father and his disobedient son. When the child errs and disobeys the Father, their fellowship is broken. The Father does not disown his son just because he made a mistake. Once the son speaks words of repentance, the fellowship is restored. THAT'S HOW IT IS WITH GOD.
  1. Assure them that God HAS NOT FORSAKEN them and will not forsake them. Once they are saved, God never leaves nor forsakes them.

  1. Assure them that God will forgive and restore them.

Psalm 86:5 - For thou, Lord, art good, and READY TO FORGIVE and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

2.  Confession of sin and cleansing of unrighteousness. Lead candidates in a prayer of rededication
using 1 John 1:9. (Have them repeat after you).

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Heavenly Father: I thank you that as I come to You, You will in no way cast me out. I thank you that you still love me. You have never left me or forsaken me. I am your child because I believe that You raised Jesus from the dead and that He is my Lord, I confess my sin to you now. But I thank you so much that you are faithful to forgive me and to cleanse me from ALL unrighteousness. I am now forgiven, washed and cleansed by the blood of Jesus. I thank you that I now have right standing with you, Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

3.  Encourage them to become established in God.

  1. Explain to them that they are now in right standing with God NO MATTER HOW THEY FEEL, and that they are to resist the accusations of Satan.

  1. Encourage them to renew their minds with the Word of God. Tell them their spirits have been reborn, but not their minds. Therefore, they need to renew their minds.

Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.

The way your life is changed and transformed is by your mind being renewed by God's Word.             You must learn to think like God thinks in order to change.

  1. Teach them the importance of:
  2. Worship
  3. Fellowship
  4. Prayer
  5. Getting involved in a church that teaches the Word
